Collision Avoidance
When waiting nodes become aware that the transmitting node has finished sending its data packet, the waiting nodes go through separately generated, random timeouts before they attempt to transmit.
Since each device will usually wait a different amount of time, the chance of two nodes trying to transmit at the same time are decreased.
